Looking for a GPT Tailored to Your Company? : Domain-Specific LLM (04/04)

With the advent of ChatGPT, there has been a surge in interest and active utilization of large language models by a diverse array of individuals. This interest isn’t confined solely to the general populace; companies are increasingly drawn to leveraging generative models to aid in business decision-making and operational processes. There’s a growing trend towards actively incorporating these models into various facets of business operations.

Limitation of Basic LLM

Domain-Specific LLM

Large language models trained on diverse domains and vast amounts of data boast flexibility, making them applicable across various fields. However, while these models may excel in general knowledge domains, they may falter in specialized areas such as law or medicine, where specific expertise is required. Moreover, when seeking results related to one’s company data, the lack of tailored training data may result in a limited understanding of context within a specific domain, potentially compromising the quality of generated outputs. This shortfall can give rise to a phenomenon known as “hallucination,” where the model produces seemingly plausible but misleading information, stemming from a lack of domain-specific knowledge.

Domain-Specific LLM

The typical form of a Domain-Specific Language Model (LLM) involves acquiring data specific to the domain one wishes to specialize in and then conducting additional training in a fine-tuning manner. Consequently, when the model receives input requests related to that domain, it possesses greater expertise than a basic LLM, better understanding the terminology and context of the domain. As a result, it can generate more accurate and meaningful sentences. This implies obtaining higher-quality outputs for a particular field. Alternatively, when using the model in the context of one’s company or department, it can generate more specific materials based on the company’s situation and knowledge.

As demand for actively implementing Language Models (LLMs) increases across various fields and scales of businesses, the demand for Domain-Specific LLMs is expected to continue rising.
